Equestria Provincial Highway 401 & 17 (EQ 401 / EQ 17), commonly referred to as Highway 401 & Highway 17 or Equestria Freeway, is a major east-west highway in northern Equestria (province), Equestria that forms a portion of the Trans-Equestria Highway. It runs from the U.S / Equestria border near Finnckville, NY through Canterlot to the Ponyland border east of Manehattan.
Ponyland Provincial Highway 99 & 17 (PL 99 / PL 17), commonly referred to as Highway 99 & Highway 17 or Ponyland Freeway, is a major east-west highway in northern Ponyland (province), Equestria that forms a portion of the Trans-Equestria Highway. It runs from the Equestria (province) border near Manehattan, Equestria north of Volcano of Gloom to the Horsetrailia Province border south of the Fields of Forever.
Horsetrailia Provincial Highway 86 & 17 (HT 86 / HT 17) commonly referred to as Route 86 & Route 17 or Horsetrailia Turnpike, is a major southeast-northwest highway in northern Horsetrailia (province), Equestria that forms a portion of the Trans-Equestria Highway. It runs from the Ponyland (province) border near Green Mtns to the U.S / (Equestria) Horsetrailia border south of Pastern, Horsetrailia.
All of the Equestria province and Ponyland province and Horsetrailia province parts of the route were originally called just Highway 17 (Equestria Hwy 17 and Ponyland Hwy 17, Horsetrailia Route 17) back when the highway was just a two-lane surface road. In 1999, the highway was upgraded to be a controlled-access road to match with the U.S portions of NY Route 17 as it was upgraded to Interstate 86. Along with this the highway in both Equestria and Ponyland and Horsetrailia provinces had another number assigned to them, which was Equestria Highway 401 & Ponyland Highway 99 and Horsetrailia Route 86. The number was chose as to match with the country's new rule set that all controlled-access roads will have a 400 number, Princess Routes or "400-series" routes and other Equestria routes were modeled after Ontario Canada's highways (for Equestria province) and Ponyland follows British Colombia's highways setup.

History
Long ago, the when the original New York State Route 17 was built, the route was built through Equestria as a two lane route with the number of Equestria Highway 17 and Ponyland Highway 17 and Horsetrailia Route 17. When the NY 17 road was upgraded to a expressway, the segments in Equestria stayed the same. In 2015, the route through Equestria was upgraded to a expressway.
The route kept the Equestria Highway 17 number on it and got the official name Trans - Equestria Highway. When the Interstate 86 number was applied to the NY 17 segments in the United States, Equestria decided to follow along and add a new number to the route, at this time the Twilight Sparkle Tollway (EQ Hwy 476) was under construction and also needed a number, so Equestria DOT decided to follow the same numbering as Ontario, Canada does for expressways and chose the number Equestria Highway 401 for the route. The Ponyland province decided to follow British Colombia's setup and give the highway number Ponyland Highway 99 (PL 99). Horsetrailia province decided to number it Horsetrailia Route 86 to match I-86 at the routes east end at the US border.
